CURATE AND COVET: ART

I have fallen down the sourcing rabbit hole….

I spend a lot of time sourcing new and exciting products for clients; a chair that suits just right, or a unique piece to set the rest of the room off.  In my searches I also come across items that make my covet list…its inevitable really, and it can get to be a big list…

This past few months I’ve been sourcing art for clients, and myself and let me tell ya……it is endlessly inspiring….I see some pieces and could design a whole room around them!

So, I’ve rounded up just a few of my favorites, along with sources, so you can join me in tracking down that perfect piece for your home!  Seriously, I can’t be alone in this…

Of course, art pieces can be found at so many levels.  You can shell out thousands (or more) for that one of a kind,  find a beautiful print of an original by a favorite artist, or even frame up a poster that just speaks to you.

I saw this piece as part of an entire room design and fell in love with it.  It took me a bit of searching but I did track down the original artist.

I couldn’t even tell you exactly what it is about it.  The colors, yes…the movement, for sure… but it’s just the feeling I get, really.  There’s a strength there, and it conjures quotes like ‘blindly go’, there’s an innocence…. It just speaks to me, as a good piece of art should.  Although I do love this one, its just a little out of my budget, so I went searching for alternatives.

This print by Coco Lapine has that cool serenity I fall for every time.  It’s slightly spooky, but I kinda like that about it.  She also has this Rorschach piece that I will definitely be needing.  I love the images, but I think it also represents what we’ve learned and how we’ve changed our perception and treatment of mental health issues.

This image most closely replicates the first Patrina Hicks piece I love.  The feel is very different for me, in this print, but I like it almost as much.  More of a desperate chaos here than the steely resolve in the Hicks piece.  This black and white image is by Kaitie Bryant and I found it on the Minted website.  Minted has so many great prints and they have gorgeous custom framing options too, so whatever you pick comes ready to hang.

When I came across the Kaitie Bryant print I fully realized I would never find another piece that is just like the Patrina Hicks photograph.  I was foolish to think I could replicate the feeling, colors, and imagery, really, but this just made me more interested in finding other pieces that spoke to me in some way.  Like I said, hello rabbit hole, where are we going to end up?

This is a hand created wood block print by Block Shop.  The technique is delicate and time consuming, but I love the results.  The patterns are carved, reversed, into blocks.  Once the shape is perfect ink is rolled over and the pattern is stamped on to textiles or paper.  I think there is something to be said about art that is pattern. Visuals broken down simply into shapes and movement.

Speaking of shapes and movement, I of course explored some abstract art.  This one by Kirsta Beneditte on Minted has a great contrast that I like, and shapes that are suggestive of human form, or maybe you see something else?

I do find myself often swayed by black and white photography.  There is a sort of silence to this piece, and the obvious ‘just keeping my head above water’.  Love it.  You can find it on the Desenio poster art website here.

I could honestly fill pages upon pages of prints, originals, and photography.  Once you start looking its difficult to stop!  Happy hunting!
