WALL SCONCE SEARCH

I am currently on the hunt for wall sconces for the new principle suite.  I have had one in mind since I first designed the space over a year ago, and its still in my top 3 options.

The Black Mantis Swivel swing arm sconce from CB2 is one of my all time favorites.  I’m sure it has something to do with the mid-mod style, and the slight oddity in the breadth of its swing, but I really love it and have for several years.

I have one in my office already, and was completely set to buy 2 more.  Matt (my husband) thinks the swing is too wide to be beside the bed, but I kind of love it.  The deciding factor will be taking the one we have up to the room and testing it out.  We don’t want it to be in the way of getting in and out of bed.

Knowing this, I am looking for alternatives. I do have some requirements for how these bedside lights will function.  They have to be wall sconces, the night stands will be small and I don’t want space taken up with a lamp.  I’d prefer a plug in (although we could have wired ones rewired with a plug).  They need to be shaded with a solid shade.  The sconce is not meant to provide light for the entire room, its only for night time reading, so the light needs to be directed down.  This is where the swing arm comes in as well.  Being able to position the light for reading is ideal.

Now, I do still think I’ll end up with the Mantis sconce, BUT WHAT ABOUT IN BRASS INSTEAD OF BLACK?

I am using a combination of black and brass finishes throughout the suite (ensuite included) so the Brass Mantis Swivel definitely works.  I’m not super crazy about the sheen on it, it’s a bit shiny for me, I’d rather a brushed more natural finish, but its not a deal breaker.

Ok so, if the final choice being the Mantis doesn’t work due to function, its going to take a lot for me to love something else as much.  But I am always up for a hunt for the best anything decor, so here we go…..

I have specified this sconce before for clients.  It hits all the functional requirements, and I like the shape.

This is one is called ‘blink’ from Matteo Lighting.  I like the combination in the finishes, it has 3 points of articulation, so even though it isn’t as far reaching as the Mantis Swivel, it can bend and direct the light pretty easily.

I am strongly considering this option; the Row Sconce from EQ3.  I really like the look of it, modern and clean.  I am not sure about it focusing the light as much as I would like as its not shaded, but….its soooo cool looking.

A decor shop that I LOVE, Rug and Weave, recently added lighting options and there is one that is an amazing option.

This is the “Game” Black Wall Sconce. It has a few points of either swivel or articulation, so I’ll be able to direct the light, and a full shade.  I love the shape of the arm, just a little different, AND it comes in brass as well..

The only drawback is the cord is clear.  That is actually a great feature, as most wall colors are light and a clear cord would be great.  Our walls are black though, and my concern is it would stand out too much…..although I could replace the cord.

Here is another option that I LOOOOOOVE.  This is a hardwired one that would need to be corded, but LOOK AT IT

Even though it would need to be corded this Rik Adjustable Wall Sconce from Crate and Barrel is a contender.  Now, it isn’t completely shaded, some light would escape through the end but, I mean common…..

Then, as always, there is Cedar and Moss.  There are so many fixtures that they create that work so well with most of my designs.  I have 2 fixtures already, and have 2 more already selected for the ensuite (wait til you see those!)

This one is the Amelie Double Articulated 8″ wall sconce.  Again, love the mix of finishes, the light is shaded, and it articulates.  I think its the shape of the shade that makes this one stand out for me.

Many of Cedar and Moss’s fixtures come in multiple finishes.  They also have other options that can allow you to customize your fixture.  For example, the wall sconces can be customized to have a cord or not.

This one is Cedar and Moss as well.  Its the Scout Double Articulated.  It does come in a mixed finish combo of black and brass, but its not my favorite look for this sconce.  In the all brass though? Oh yeah.  It’s good.

I know I’ll end up selecting more options than I need, you know, just to keep things confusing.  Making selections for yourself is harder than making them for clients!  I’ll post some to my Instagram stories if I come across other options, so make sure you follow me there!
